Spirit Ministry
At some point in your life you have probably experienced pain or sickness in your body and have gone to a doctor to help heal your physical body. My husband and I raised two active boys and we made numerous visits to urgent care centers, often for stitches! Thankfully, no broken bones.
We’ve all experienced emotional pain. It could be childhood trauma, disappointments in life, broken relationships, or loss of a loved one. Many people are familiar with soul healing, and the need to deal with past traumas and wounds, and that is a very important part of our journey to wholeness.
Many wounds also land on the spirit and the healing of your spirit is a strategic part of the healing process that many people are not aware of. When we heal and strengthen the spirit first, then our spirit assists with bringing healing to the soul and the body, which accelerates the healing process.
Paul indicates the progression of spirit, soul and body in 1 Thessalonians 5:23,
“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
There are several scriptures that mention a broken or wounded spirit. Here’s a couple examples:
Proverbs 18:14 “The spirit of a man can endure his sickness, but who can survive a broken spirit?”
Proverbs 17:22 "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones."
Since your spirit can be broken and wounded in ways similar to your soul and body that would also indicate the need for healing of your spirit. Think of a time you have felt a deep, deep pain. Maybe at the loss of a loved one or betrayal by someone you loved. That deep pain might have been a wound to your spirit.
Although others had the initial revelation, Arthur Burk brought the teaching to the church that there are seven portions to each of our spirits according to Romans 12:6-8:

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your [a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."
Based on this scripture, each person has these seven portions of the spirit in this order: Prophet, Servant, Teacher, Exhorter, Giver, Ruler, and Mercy.

I’ve heard that there are over 250 lists of sevens in the Scriptures. Can you think of a few lists of sevens in scripture? Some that you might be the most familiar with are the seven days of creation, the seven churches in Revelation, and the seven pieces of furniture in the tabernacle.

Characteristics of each item in these lists match the corresponding portion of the spirit. The order of the lists in scripture is significant as the first in each list of seven relates to the Prophet portion of your spirit and consecutively to number seven in the list which corresponds to the Mercy portion of your spirit.
Different types of brokenness and wounds may land on each of the portions of your spirit, and we have found it’s very important to minister to each portion of the spirit and bring healing to them. As the portions of the spirit are healed, then they can work with us and the Godhead to bring healing to the soul. Then the soul healing goes much faster much deeper. There’s also some things, such as shame and betrayal, that often land on the spirit, so it’s important to address them on the spirit level and not just on the soul level.
Have you experienced a lot of emotional healing at the soul level and been unable to get to the root of an issue? Often that’s because the trauma is on the spirit and not just the soul. That’s another reason that I like to do spirit healing before soul healing.
